WooSox lefty tosses an immaculate inning on Tuesday night
The WooSox are on the road this week, playing the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders from PNC Field. Left-hander Matt Dermody was on the bump for Worcester and was part of team history in the 13-3 blow out win over the RailRiders.
Dermody tossed an immaculate inning during the third inning, striking out Estevan Florial, Oswald Peraza and Elijah Dunham on nine pitches.
It was the second immaculate inning in WooSox history. Lefty Chris Murphy threw an immaculate inning against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on September 9, 2022.
The 32-year-old is quietly putting together a quality season. Dermody is 2-1 with a 3.64 ERA in eight games (seven starts), one complete game (7 inning double-header), 1.36 WHIP over 42 innings.
The southpaw has pithed in parts of four MLB seasons, signing with the Red Sox this past January on a minor league deal. Dermody offers a five-pitch mix of a 92 mph fastball, 86 mph slider, 84 mph curveball, 91 mph sinker and 83 mph changeup.
The Iowa native owns a 5.60 ERA over 27 1/3 big league innings.
