Four teams have made managerial changes this season. It’s very likely that once the regular season comes to an end, more managers will get a pink slip.
Could Red Sox manager Alex Cora be out as manager once the season comes to an end?
According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, “it feels like a decision between Bloom or Cora is coming” at the end of the season.
Chaim Bloom has been with the Red Sox for three seasons. Two of which they’ve been at the bottom of the division and last season the Sox were two wins away from the World Series.
There has been grumblings from Fenway Park that ownership is unhappy with the way the team has performed this season. Particularly spending over $200 million on the roster that’s yielded last place results.
Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy attempted to throw water on the fire that Cora and Bloom have a bad relationship. Kennedy went onto WEEI about a month ago and said, “I can say with absolute certainty that Chaim and Alex Cora have perhaps the best manager/general manager relationship that I’ve seen in my time here. They’ve got incredibly open dialogue,” Kennedy said.
“All of us talk, all the time on a daily basis,” Kennedy added.
If their relationship is peachy keen, then why are there rumblings from team beat writers that Cora could be gone at the end of the season?
Abraham would write, “If the owners decide to ax him after the season, Bloom could argue that unlike Cherington and Dombrowski, he never had a chance to hire his own manager.
“The owners made it clear in 2020 they wanted Cora back after his suspension and Bloom went along. Bloom could ask for another chance with his own manager and maybe the owners would go along with that. It’s unlikely. But given the volatility at Fenway, anything is possible.”
There’s been a perception amongst the fan base that Bloom and Cora are not on the same page. In addition, there’s been leaks from the players that they’ve been unhappy with the front office. It’s possible that both Bloom and Cora walking away from each other is more amicable for both sides. Cora could move onto a team that is committed to winning right now. Bloom could hire his “own guy” but if he does and it doesn’t work out, his time will numbered.
Right now the Red Sox feel like a team with a direction on paper but not executing it on the field. Fans have been pro-Cora but anti-Bloom. It certainly does feel like something will happen at the end of the season.

Such poor journalism! Big headline, poorly presented opinion. This entire piece is baseless, other than fan opinion and “just a gut feeling.” Just as we Sox fans deserve a better product and results on the field, your readers deserve better, too.
if it comes down to it, the wrong one is going if it's cora
