Jets' Aaron Rodgers designated to return from injured reserve
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been designated to return from the injured reserve.
This opens up a 21 day window for him to be activated by the Jets and allows him to practice.
“This is a progression in his rehab - not so much getting him ready to play. He’s clear for functional football activity - not to play.” head coach Robert Saleh told reporters.
The future hall of famer tore his achillies on a non-contact injury on the first offensive drive for the Jets this season. The injury occurred just 79 calendar days ago.
Rodgers had maintained that as long as he feels he can protect himself. New York sits at 4-7 and them being in the playoff mix could determine if he will return.
“I think it’s always been am I healthy and then are we alive, are we in it. Can I step in and protect myself and play to the level that I’m capable of playing?” Rodgers explained on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN this week.
New York benched Zach Wilson last week and started Tim Boyle, who struggled as the team fell 34-13 against the Miami Dolphins.
Boyle went 27-39 for 174 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Wilson through 10 games had a QBR of 73.8 with seven interceptions to six touchdowns.
The Jets host the 5-6 Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. If there is hope that Rodgers returns, this becomes an almost must win to stay in the playoff picture.
