Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow set to undergo wrist surgery on Monday (report)
The Jake Browning-era will begin for the Bengals on Sunday when they host the Steelers. Browning will lead the Bengals for the remainder of the season due to Joe Burrow injuring his wrist against the Ravens in Week 11.
Burrow is set to undergo surgery on his injured wrist on Monday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The league is investigating Burrow’s injury as to whether or not the team should have listed their franchise quarterback on its injury report prior to the game on Nov. 16.
Video emerged on social media, showing Burrow wearing something on his right wrist leading up to the game.
The former LSU star suffered a torn ligament in his wrist during the game, the team announced.
“I felt a pop,” Burrow said to reporters on the touchdown throw, he also added that he landed on his wrist the play before. Head coach Zac Taylor said that Browning will remain the starter going forward.
Browning will get the start for Cincy, which is an opportunity he is excited for despite the injury to Burrow.
"It sounds weird, but it's an opportunity for me," Browning said. "So that part's exciting, obviously close with Joe, bummed to see him go down. And it doesn't take away from the fact that it sucks to have him out and he's a big part of the team, obviously. But I think you know, for me, I'm not gonna hide the fact that I'm excited for my opportunity."
Browning went 8-of-14 passing for 68 yards and one touchdown in the 34-20 loss to the Ravens.
"Like all of this, it's an unfortunate situation for our team to be in where one of our best players hurt, but it's the reality of why you have a backup and why I prepare each week like I need to go in, so I'm excited," Browning said. "Excited for the opportunity."
