The Carolina Panthers are 1-10 and have fired head coach Frank Reich after just 11 games. Currently, the Panthers have the worst record in the NFL, they’re positioned to land the No.1 overall pick. That pick will belong to the Chicago Bears after Carolina traded for last years number one overall pick to select quarterback Bryce Young.
Carolina owner David Tepper has now fired three head coaches since taking over the team in 2018. Ron Rivera and Matt Rhule was also let go. The Panthers will now to try to reset without a first overall pick.
“I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. I want to thank frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well. Effective immediately, special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as our interim head coach. Senior assistant Jim Caldwll will be a special advisor to the offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who will take over play calling duties.” Tepper said in a released statement.
Reich has now lost two jobs in just over a year span. On November 7th, 2022 the Colts let him go after only one playoff win over four and half years.
Patriots assistant Jerod Mayo turned down an interview last offseason with the Panthers. Mayo is in search of his first head coaching gig and with the impatience of Tepper has shown and lack of a top pick, he made the right choice.
