Triston Casas caps off Major League debut with his first career hit
Casas went 1-for-4 in his big league debut for the Red Sox
The Red Sox called up top prospect Triston Casas on Saturday night. He would go on to make his major league debut for the Red Sox on Sunday.
The 22-year-old did not disappoint showing off his glove early in the game. Casas would also notch his first career hit, an infield single in the fifth inning.
The Florida native went 1-for-4 in the Red Sox 5-2 victory over the Rangers at Fenway Park. Boston’s win was the club’s fifth in a raw.
His infield hit was a single that eluded Rangers star shortstop Corey Seager.
“You don’t choose how they come. I’ll take all of them,” Casas said.
The 6-foot-5, 250 pound slugger will likely play “almost every day,” said manager Alex Cora. "We'll get to know him on a daily basis and see what he's all about. Obviously, the player we like."
Heading into his first big league at-bat, the Casas was trying to calm his nerves. After watching Trevor Story hit his 16th home run of the season into the Green Monster seats, Casas was ready.
"It was everything I visualized," Casas said. "I had seen it before. ... Top of the lineup setting the tone, topped off by (Trevor) Story’s home run. I was a fan up until (that) point. Getting to see Trevor hit that home run was awesome. Calmed my nerves going into my first AB."
