Overall Record: 71-66
Current spot in standings: 4th place in AL East
This week started off as ugly as possible for the Red Sox as they hosted the Houston Astros.
In game one of the series, things got off to a good start as Tristan Casas got a two-rbi double in the first to put the Sox up 2-0 early. With the team trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Adam Duvall came up and hit a two-run home run to give the team a 4-3 lead, sending Fenway into a frenzy.
After this however, it was all Astros as they would score nine unanswered runs en route to a 13-5 victory.
The next day was not much better for the Sox as Brayan Bello struggled through 4.2 IP, and the only positive out of this one was that Adam Duvall hit yet another home run. Houston ultimately took the game 6-2.
In the series finale, it was like the team was walking in quick sand through the first half of the game as the Astros jumped out to a 7-0 lead. A four-run sixth gave Fenway some life but it was ultimately not enough as they fell 7-4.
After a day off on Thursday, the team visited Kauffman Stadium and the Kansas City Royals for a weekend series. This was one of the ugliest games you will see from this team as the now worst team in baseball, Royals, dominated from start to finish on the way to a 13-2 victory.
In game two, the bats came out hot, as Rafael Devers had an RBI double and Casas had a two-run home run in the first. Everyone got involved for the offense as they eventually jumped out to a 9-1 lead.
A small Royals rally in the later innings made things interesting, but it was not enough as the Sox took it, 9-4.
In the series finale, it took until the fourth inning, but the offense finally got going, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a Masataka Yoshida three-run home run in the fourth and another Duvall home run in the sixth.
The Royals really did not have an answer in this one until the ninth, but at that point it was too little too late as the Sox won it 7-3.
This week saw the Sox carry a five-game losing streak so all in all, it was not a good week after some positive momentum from a week ago. Casas however looked great, Duvall stayed hot, and Cedanne Rafaela showed some promise at the plate, giving a glimpse into the future.
The Sox will look to right the ship when they take on the Tampa Bay Rays starting today.
