Red Sox promote outfielder Roman Anthony to Double-A Portland
Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel promoted to Double-A Portland
The Red Sox remain aggressive with internal promotions by promoting catcher Kyle Teel and Roman Anthony to the Portland Sea Dogs. The moves were first reported by MiLB Central on Instagram and Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
Anthony has skyrocketed through the Red Sox system and raked for High-A Greenville. The 19-year-old batted .294 with 12 home runs, 38 RBI and a .981 OPS in 54 games with the Drive
Anthony ranks as Boston’s No.2 prospect behind shortstop Marcelo Mayer and is No. 19 overall according to Baseball America.
The Red Sox drafted Anthony in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
After his promotion to the Drive earlier this season, Baseball America referred to Anthony as a breakout prospect.
“One of the top breakout prospects in Low-A this season, Anthony has taken flight since seeing a promotion to High-A Greenville,” Baseball America wrote. “His excellent bat-to-ball skills and discerning eye pair nicely with his developing plus power. Anthony has the ability to develop into a well-rounded offensive player who can handle center field defensively.”
Anthony showed off his power stroke while with the Drive and will now look to take his young raw power to Hadlock Field in Portland.
“While Anthony shows plus to double-plus raw power and can clear fences with ease, he controls at-bats in impressive fashion, particularly for a player with his stout frame. While his raw power is obvious, there's less consensus around Anthony's pure hitting ability,” wrote Baseball America.
Anthony will be joined by Teel and other top prospects within the Red Sox system. The Sea Dogs currently have infielder Nick Yorke (No. 6, SoxProspects), right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez (No. 8, SoxProspects), infielder Blaze Jordan (No. 19, SoxProspects), catcher Nathan Hickey (No. 18, SoxProspects), and infielder Chase Meidroth (No. 16, SoxProspects).
