Red Sox vs. Astros: Nick Pivetta makes spring debut, Arroyo looks to stay hot, lineup
Nick Pivetta will take the mound for the first time this spring. The righty will make a start against the Astros from JetBlue Park at 1:05 p.m. ET.
The game can be seen on NESN and heard on WEEI.
Pivetta has been coming along slowly this spring. He dealt with COVID-19 prior to coming to camp. While at Fenway South, Pivetta has been trying to build his strength back.
The 30-yard-old is looking to lockdown a spot in the rotation. There’s seven pitchers looking for five spots. Speculation has been circulating this spring that Pivetta might be the odd man out and end up being a bulk innings pitcher. With injuries to James Paxton, Brayan Bello and Garrett Whitlock rehabbing from hip surgery, he has a shot to secure a spot.
“I’m a starting pitcher, that’s who I am, what I’m capable of doing,” Pivetta told the Boston Globe.

Christian Arroyo will bat third for the Red Sox. He is coming off a two-homer game against the Phillies on Thursday. Arroyo crushed a opposite field solo shot in the second inning and then hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning.
“I just try to work on stuff and stuff that I know can carry me into the season,” Arroyo said. “It was good to see some results.”
