Red Sox looking for major leaguers in return for J.D. Martinez and Christian Vázquez
Reports are saying the Sox looking for major leaguers in trade packages
The Boston Red Sox have made it clear — they are looking for major leaguers in return for both JD Martinez and Christian Vázquez.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, he stated that the Red Sox would be looking for major leaguers in return for Martinez and Vázquez.
Chris Henrique of Beyond the Monster stated that Red Sox were showing interest in Mets number four prospect Mark Vientos, but also stated the asking price may be high, according to other reports.
Mets beat writer Pat Ragazzo confirmed reports of the asking price was high for the Mets in return for the Martinez and Vázquez.
Michael Mayer of Mets Minors stated on Monday morning that nothing had changed for the Mets and that they were still on the market for a bat and a reliever. He went on to say that the Red Sox, among the Cubs, Tigers, and Orioles were all in conversations with the Mets.
Beyond the Monster ran a poll about Martinez and Vázquez trade rumors. The poll asked which player would get traded first with 54% saying Martinez would be traded before Vázquez, but 34% voted that the two would get shipped out of Boston together. And 10% only voted that Vázquez would be traded first.
“I appreciate everything. I appreciate the love. Just, the constant energy every time you come in here. It’s something, if I do get traded, it’s something I’m definitely going to miss and I admire. These fans are as hard on me as I am on myself,” Martinez said on NESN after Sunday’s game.
As far as thinking Chaim Bloom believed in the organization, Vázquez simply said after Sunday’s game “I don’t know”.
Brandon Warne of Access Twins, another FREE substack stated that the Twins could go after two Red Sox pitchers.
That trade scenario that Warne came up with was the Twins sending infielders Will Holland and Wander Javier for pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and Ryan Brasier.
If the Red Sox do intend on being full sellers, Eovaldi start on Monday could be monitored closely by other teams around the league, stated Jon Morosi.
If Martinez, Vázquez, or Eovaldi somehow don’t end up being traded at the deadline they will join Michael Wacha, Matt Strahm, Rich Hill and Kiké Hernández as free agents at the end of the season.
Xander Bogaerts has a player option after the 2022 season while Rafael Devers is playing on a one-year deal with the Red Sox. Both of which do not intend to talk contract situations until the end of the season. Both of which also stated that they would not be traded away from the club at or before the deadline.
