Report: Red Sox asking price for J.D. Martinez ‘very high’
On Sunday, J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with two doubles in what could have been his final game as a member of the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Martinez snapped an 0-for-25 stretch with his two doubles. The Red Sox slugger has been dealing with back spasms in recent weeks and the possibility he could be traded by the trade deadline Tuesday.
One team that has been linked heavily to the Red Sox has been the New York Mets. This past weekend, the Mets have had scouts watching the Sox series against the Brewers.
Reportedly the Red Sox have shown interest in Mets power hitting prospect Mark Vientos. However, the Mets reportedly aren’t looking to trade him for a rental.
On Sunday night, Mets beat writer for FanSided and SI.com Pat Ragazzo tweeted the reported asking price for Martinez.

“From what I’ve heard, Red Sox current ask for JD Martinez is very high: Top 5 prospect, 1 player from MLB roster, plus an additional piece and/or cash,” said Ragazzo.
He would also add to his tweet thread, “Basically, the Mets aren’t close here. But wait until 6 pm on Tuesday. GMs will have to start telling the truth by then. We will see if JDM’s price comes down.”

If that’s an accurate report, it would align with Andy Martino of SNY report that Vientos, Dom Smith and Tomas Nido could be involved in a Martinez trade.
While the Mets have been actively pursuing Martinez, the Los Angeles Dodgers are monitoring the designated hitters availability as the deadline looms.
