New Raiders cornerback Jack Jones on time with the Patriots: ‘I would say it wasn't the best fit’
Jack Jones time with the Patriots was short and definitely not sweet. Following New England’s tough 10-6 loss to the Colts on Sunday in Germany, the team waived the two-year pro.
Jones told reporters he was hurt by his release from the team and that he didn’t mesh well with the organization.
"I would say it wasn't the best fit," Jones said, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. "I can't really speak too much about it, just because I'm not on the coaching staff. I can't call it. Just wasn't the best fit, but I'm glad to be here."
Jones is happy to be with Las Vegas, calling their secondary “elite.”
The fourth-round pick is working to learn the play book under new coach Antonio Pierce. The two have a history together, Pierce coached Jones in high school and in college.
“In high school, he was about 120 (pounds), and I think now he’s 170. He ain’t got much weight,” Pierce said to reporters, including the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “But listen, maturity, the kid’s been through a lot. … Nobody’s perfect, I don’t expect him to be perfect. That’s my job as well, to bring him along and our staff and our organization to help him if he needs be. But the football player is extremely gifted, and I expect him to do such.”
This season, Jones has appeared in four games for the Patriots this season, recording one pass defensed after starting the season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
“I still have some fire behind me,” Jones said. “I kind of feel I have something to prove without going out of my way to try to prove it. I just want to show everybody I’m a good player and not someone you can just shoo away. I’m not saying that was the case with the Patriots. Whatever happened, it just didn’t work out. That’s why I ended up here. I just want to show everyone I’m a good player.”
