Christian Arroyo placed on Triple-A injured list
The Worcester Red Sox have placed infielder Christian Arroyo on the 7-day injured list with right ankle inflammation.
The IL stint is retroactive to Sept. 11, and the injury likely ends his 2023 season.
The Red Sox designated Arroyo for assignment back on Aug. 4, after the club acquired Luis Urías from the Brewers.
Arroyo finishes his 2023 season with Boston batting .241 with 47 hits, 16 doubles, three homers, 24 RBI and a .638 OPS. The 28-year-old struggled with the WooSox, hitting .138, two RBI and .380 OPS.
During spring training, Chaim Bloom spoke about Arroyo with members of Beyond the Monster. Bloom talked about Arroyo’s development with the Rays and said that Tampa Bay didn’t get the best out of him due to the pressure placed on him.
Arroyo spent two years with the Rays before being traded to the Guardians with reliever Hunter Wood for outfielder Ruben Cardenas and international slot money.
The former first round pick came into this season as the Red Sox starting second baseman. Boston opted to move Kiké Hernández to shortstop while Trevor Story rehabbed from elbow surgery.
Arroyo is arbitration eligible heading into the winter, he earned $2 million this past season. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
