Luis De La Rosa put together an impressive 2023 campaign
During the 2023 campaign, the Red Sox farm system has provided some reasons for optimism. While the Red Sox have struggled at the major league level and were tied for last place in the AL East entering play on Wednesday, there are a few prospects, including Luis De La Rosa, who have put together solid seasons. De La Rosa isn't one of the organization's top prospects, but his value has been on the rise.
In 28 games, the Dominican native posted a 2.94 ERA and recorded a career-high three holds for the Salem Red Sox. De La Rosa was also a strikeout machine with 88 punchouts in 70.1 innings of work. In his fourth professional season, the 21-year-old has been one of Salem's best pitchers and played various roles.
While De La Rosa was primarily been used out of the bullpen, six of his appearances were as a starter. That is the second-highest total of his career and his most since 2019. Regardless of the role, he has proven to be a reliable arm against advanced competition.
Additionally, the talented right-hander continued to improve as the innings added up. De La Rosa posted a 0.93 ERA in eight August appearances and held opponents to a 1.67 batting average. That was the best month of his season, and as a result, he finished the 2023 campaign with the second-lowest ERA of his career.
With the High-A season in the books, De La Rosa will shift his focus to improving his craft in the offseason. He will have plenty of positives to build on after setting career highs in innings pitched, strikeouts, and appearances. If he can continue to build on his success, then De La Rosa may not be flying under the radar for much longer.
