Chicago Cubs assistant general manager listed as ‘potential strong candidate’ for Red Sox open front office role
New York Posts reports on former Red Sox pitcher Craig Breslow
The Red Sox search for their next front office leader is seemingly heating up. Multiple names have emerged as potential candidates in the last 72 hours including the latest one, former Red Sox reliever and 2013 world champion Craig Breslow.
Breslow is currently serving as the assistant general manager for the Chicago Cubs and also is the director of pitching for them. The Yale graduate was mentioned today by Joel Sherman of the New York Post, as a “potential strong candidate.” This is the second time that Breslow and the Red Sox have been linked this offseason.
Initially, it was mentioned by Peter Gammons who posted “There are rumblings emanating from Chicago that Craig Breslow is moving to the Red Sox to direct their pitching development program. Kelly (his wife), Craig and their children still live in Newton.”
The role to oversee the Red Sox pitching development program would make a lot of sense, but Sherman is the first one to mention Breslow as a possible front office leader.
At 43-years-old has no experience being a front office leader, but he could bring a unique perspective.
As of now, there isn’t anyone in a prominent front office role that knows what it takes and what it is truly like to play and win for the city of Boston. It says a lot about how Breslow has excelled as he has already been promoted twice by Chicago since 2019 when he was originally hired by Theo Epstein.
