Former Marlins president not interested in Red Sox front office job
The Red Sox were connected to former Marlins president Michael Hill earlier in the week as someone they’d like to interview to replace Chaim Bloom.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Hill is not interested in the vacant Red Sox front office job.
“MLB vice president Michael Hill, the former president of the Miami Marlins, has no interest in leaving his position for the Boston Red Sox or any other team at this time,” reported Nightengale.
He would add that Boston is expressing strong interest in Phillies’ general manager Sam Fuld.
“The Boston Red Sox have interviewed assistant GM Eddie Romero among their internal candidates to replace Chaim Bloom as their chief baseball officer, but Phillies GM Sam Fuld may still be the favorite,” added Nightengale.
Hill currently serves as MLB’s Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations. He is in charge of umpires and on-field discipline. The former veteran front office executive prefers to stay in his role.
With Hill removing himself from consideration, he becomes the latest executive to turndown the Red Sox.
Former Rangers president Jon Daniels showed interest in interviewing for Bloom’s old role. He would remove himself from consideration citing family reasons.
Boston’s once prestigious general manager post is looking less desirable by the day.
