Jim Montgomery announced two injuries after morning skate. Forwards Milan Lucic and Jakub Lauko are both out. Lucic will miss a couple weeks due to a lower body injury and Lauko is out a week with a facial fracture after taking a skate blade near his eye from Blackhawks’ Jason Dickinson.
Lauko needs time to allow the swelling to go down.
Lucic has played in four games this year and has two assists while averaging just under 12 minutes of ice time. Lauko has yet to record a point in the four games he played in on the young season.
Jesper Boqvist has been recalled from the AHL where he has two assists in five games.
The 24 year-old, former second round pick, has played in 189 games with the New Jersey Devils. Boqvist signed with Boston on a one-year, $775,000 contract in the offseason, but didn’t make the team out of camp.
The morning skate featured Danton Heinen on the left and Patrick Brown on the right, centering Johnny Beecher. Boqvist was the extra skater. Brown, at least on paper, was sent down to the AHL yesterday, but has already been recalled back up.
It would not be surprising to see Boqvist in for Heinen despite the practice lines this morning.
Heinen remains on a professional tryout, but that could end up changing if he get a chance at establishing a role as bottom six forward once again for Boston. This is his second stint with the black and gold.
Heinen played with the Bruins from 2016-2020, tallying 103 points in 220 games, before leaving in free agency to sign with the Anahiem Ducks.
On the defenseman side, Ian Mitchell was seen skating prior to the morning skate despite being placed on waivers yesterday. He has being assigned to the AHL Providence Bruins as no other team claimed him.
The Bruins will have Linus Ullmark in net tonight as Montgomery continues to alternate starts between him and Jeremy Swayman.
Not only is the best NHL goalie tandem undefeated they lead the NHL in Goals against at 1.17 and save percentage at .959 to go along with a shutout. The Bruins return home to play the Ducks to cap off their two game season series.
