Through the first six games of the Bruins season, the offense has been led by familiar faces. David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand have been goal machines, while Matthew Poitras has built on his strong preseason. However, a newcomer in Morgan Geekie has started to make an impact.
In six games this season, the former third-round pick has recorded one goal and two assists. After a slow start, Geekie has been more aggressive with the puck and recorded one point in three straight games. During that stretch, he has thrived regardless of the line he has been placed on.
Additionally, Geekie has started to show why the Bruins were interested in him during free agency. He set career highs in goals, assists and points last year for the Kraken. The 25-year-old was also not afraid of sacrificing his body as he blocked 33 shots and dished out 53 hits. In four of the Bruins six games this season, Geekie has blocked at least one shot.
Although the Bruins are still searching for consistency offensively, Montgomery has given Geekie top six minutes at times, which he has taken advantage of.
"There's a lot of things to be excited about...just gonna go out there and try to make space for both those guys," Geekie told Eric Russo last week when asked about playing with Marchand and Poitras.
While the Canadian native still has plenty to prove, he has shown some encouraging signs. His ability to provide a spark offensively while being physical is a combination that fits the Bruins system perfectly. If he can continue his recent play, he will be an important part of this team's success.
