Bruins make two roster moves, placing defenseman on waivers
Mitchell is placed on waivers and Brown is sent down
The Boston Bruins have placed Ian Mitchell on waivers this afternoon. Mitchell has served as a depth defenseman in the first six games of the season. He was a healthy scratch last night against his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks. The Bruins also sent forward Patrick Brown to the AHL.
Mitchell originally was acquired as part of the return Boston got back for winger Taylor Hall. The 24 year old appeared in two games on the young season getting an assist and was a plus one. If Mitchell is not claimed on waivers, he would be sent to the AHL as organizational depth as he is on a one year, two-way contract.
Brown has also been the extra forward after signing a 2 year, $1.6 million deal in the offseason. The veteran forward hasn’t recorded a point his three games played with the Bruins. Milan Lucic has been banged up and Brown has come in to fill that void.
To take the place of Brown, the logical move would be to sign Danton Heinen as he has been staying with the Bruins on a professional tryout. In terms of adding a defenseman, the Bruins could turn to Mason Lohrei.
Lohrei is the Bruins top defenseman prospect who looked like he could’ve maybe even should’ve made the team out of training camp. In five AHL, the 22 year old left shot defenseman has two assist and is a plus three to start the season for the Providence Bruins.
Boston has started their season 6-0 with mixing and matching their depth. They play their second game of the season against the Anaheim Ducks as they head back home after a long west coast road trip. Puck drop is Thursday at 7:00 pm.
