The Boston Bruins are squaring off against the Central Divison-leading Winnipeg Jets tonight, Jan. 22, in their fourth game out of a five-game homestand.
The B’s currently ride a four-game winning streak and sit atop the Atlantic Division with 65 points and a 28-8-9 record.
The teams last met on Dec. 22, 2023, in Winnipeg, where the Jets sent the Bruins packing with a 5-1 loss. Since then, the Jets have maintained a 10-1-1 record, while the Bruins are 9-2-3.
“Last time we were in there, I thought they embarrassed us,” Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery told reporters. “They played the right way, they were on top of us, they didn’t give us any room and we have to be prepared to fight for every foot of ice. Doesn’t matter if it’s our own or their end tonight. It’s a good challenge for us.”
David Pastrnak remains hot for Boston. In his last three games, Pastrnak has five goals, two assists, and seven points. He was awarded the NHL Second Star of the Week on Monday.
“Players that are determined to leave their mark in the game…they want to get better every year,” Montgomery said of Pastrnak. “He continues to add different arsenals to his goal-scoring prowess, his play-making ability, and also his defensive game. We’re lucky to have him.”
The B’s are coming off a 9-4 win versus the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, Jan. 20, and look to ride that momentum into tonight’s game.
The high-scoring game was filled with various milestones that included Danton Heinen’s first career hat trick in his 450th regular season game, Pavel Zacha’s 100th goal of his career, and a new club record of 16 skaters with points in a single game.
“It’s a really good team,” Heinen told the media. “We’ve got to be ready from the start. A team that’s playing well and doesn’t give up a whole lot of offense. We’ve got to get to our game early and go from there. We didn’t have a good taste in our mouth coming out of that [last meeting with the Jets]. It felt like they dominated us all over the ice. Definitely a little motivation and I think you’ll see a team that’s ready to go tonight.”
Boston looks to even out the regular season matchup, 1-1. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at TD Garden.
