The Boston Bruins beat the Montreal Canadiens, 9-4, Saturday night at TD Garden. The game was the team’s fourth Centennial Night of the season, which honored “New Blood, New Beginnings” (1986-2000).
Brad Marchand, Danton Heinen, David Pastrnak, and Pavel Zacha all hit career milestones in the game.
Marchand scored his 20th goal for the 11th season in a row, putting him past Johnny Bucyk and Patrice Bergeron, who each had 20 goals for 10 straight seasons.
“Nights like this don’t happen very often,” Marchand told reporters after the game. “It’s great when it happens in that fashion when we’re recognizing past players against a big rivalry team for us. It was a fun night and great to see how everything came together.”
Heinen recorded his first career hat trick in his 450th career regular season game. Pastrnak scored his 30th goal of the season for the seventh time in his career, while Zacha scored the 100th goal of his career.
“I’m not gonna lie, it felt good,” Heinen told the media. “Hasn’t been going in lately, so it feels good to see it go in and just contribute to get the two points.”
Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk, and Brandon Carlo also scored in the game.
Sixteen different B’s players had points in the victory.
“I think it talks about the evolution of our team actually growing offensively,” Head Coach Jim Montgomery said after the game. “I don’t think we ever envisioned having a game like this. Over the course of 82 games, there’s some outliers, but I thought we’ve been seeing this coming here for four games.”
The last time the Bruins scored nine goals was against the Calgary Flames on January 5, 2012.
Linus Ullmark recorded 17 saves in his first game back since leaving the Jan. 9 game with an injury.
Boston will look to face the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night at TD Garden. Winnipeg (30-10-4) is first in the Central Division. The teams last met on Dec. 22, which ended in a 5-1 loss for the B’s.
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST.
