After a five-game scoreless streak, Brad Marchand has regained his offensive touch. While the Bruins captain’s production comes as no surprise, he has provided a reminder of just how valuable he is during his most recent stretch of excellence.
As the Bruins have gone 4-1 in their past five games, Marchand has added six points to his resume. He has five goals during that stretch and recorded his fifth career hat trick. The former third-round pick showed that he could still carry the offense as he had scored the Bruins last five goals entering play on Saturday. That was the second most in a row in team history.
Due to his recent success, Marchand is averaging nearly a point per game this season. In 26 games, the Halifax native has 25 points, including 12 goals. Only David Pastrnak has more, as he has continued to be a human highlight reel.
Additionally, it is no coincidence that the Bruins have returned to their winning ways while Marchand has bounced back from a rough stretch. The Bruins offense is at their best when he is contributing. This season, he is needed more than ever after franchise icons Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired in the offseason.
With the 2023-2024 campaign far from over, the Bruins will rely on the star winger as they try to position themselves for a playoff run. Marchand is more than up to the task regardless of who is on his line.
While the Bruins are out of action for a few days, Marchand has earned a little rest. When Boston returns to play on Wednesday against the Devils, Marchand will be looking to extend his point streak to five games.
