During the first few months of the 2023-2024 campaign, the Boston Bruins have relied on their goalie tandem of Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark to be successful. Last week, the duo had a rare down week as the Bruins looked overmatched during a three-game skid. However, they have gotten back on track partly due to the play of Jeremy Swayman.
In his last two starts, the former fourth-round pick made 51 saves and only allowed one goal. Swayman recorded his second shutout of the season in that stretch and only needs two more to match his total from last season.
For the Bruins, Swayman’s recent play has been a welcoming sign. Against the Tampa Bay Lighting on November 20, he allowed five goals. Four days later, against the Detroit Red Wings, he allowed four. As a result, more pressure was placed on the offense.
While the Anchorage native has been a steady presence in net, every season is full of ups and downs. That is particularly true for goaltenders. During his last two starts, the 25-year-old has put his bad starts in the rearview mirror.
With Swayman at his best, the Bruins have been hard to beat this season. His 1.87 GAA is the third-best in the league and his .932 save percentage is the second-best. If that continues, a deep playoff run could be in store for the Bruins.
Although the regular season is far from over, Swayman appears to have snapped out of his mini funk, which is essential to the Bruins's success.
