The Boston Bruins were believed to be done after trading for Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway, but they are not. Tomorrow is the NHL trade deadline and the Bruins have traded for another rental player in right winger Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings, per Elliot Friedman.
The return of the trade is for protected 2024 1st round pick and a 2025 fourth round pick. Detroit will also retain 50% of Bertuzzi’s salary.
Bertuzzi is a left shot wing who can play on either side. He has appeared in 29 games this season after missing time twice after blocking shots with each of his hands. He currently has four goals and 10 assists for the season. A massive disappointment after he looked to breakout last year with 30 goals and 32 assists over 68 games.
The timing of this trade could be related to injury to Taylor Hall according to Darren Dreger. Bertuzzi could slide in to Hall’s spot in the lineup and bring immediate veteran experience of over 300 games.
Potentially not having a first round pick for the next two years could hurt down the line. However, if Bertuzzi is able to stay healthy, he could make the Bruins lines that much deeper as they head into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
