Bogaerts and Vazquez were close friends during their time with the Red Sox. The two grew up together in the organizations farm system and then on the major league roster.
Vazquez joined the Red Sox organization when he was drafted in the ninth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. Bogaerts joined the Sox when he signed as an international free agent in 2009.

The two played have been on the MLB roster since 2014 and currently are both free agents this winter.
After the trade to Houston, Vazquez opened up to WEEI’s Rob Bradford on his close relationship with Bogaerts.
“[Xander] knows I love him a lot and it’s going to be tough on the plane. My seat is going to be empty. There was him and me on the plane. It’s going to be hard when he sees that seat empty. It’s going to be tough for him. We’re going to talk a lot on the phone. He knows. We’re going to be good. We’re going to be good,” said Vazquez.
The connection the two players have is special and Red Sox fans got to watch the majority of it on the baseball diamond for years.
Bogaerts is a free agent after opting out of his contract on Monday. He will test the market while hoping to return to the Red Sox. Vazquez would also like to return back to Boston, it remains to be seen what Chaim Bloom will do this winter.
