The Red Sox acquired Pham at the trade deadline in August. He appeared in 53 games for Boston. During his time with the Red Sox, Pham hit .234 with 50 hits, 12 doubles, six homers, 24 RBIs, one stolen base and a .672 OPS.
Pham becoming a free agent comes on the heels of All-Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts officially opting out of his deal. Bogaerts will become a free agent for the first time in his career.
The Red Sox will have to make a decision on whether or not to pick up the two-year, $26 million option on lefty James Paxton. Reports indicate the Red Sox are expected to decline Paxton’s option. He will then decide on accepting his $4 million option player option or become a free agent. The club will also learn in the coming days if Eric Hosmer will opt into his contract. He has three-years, $39 million remaining on his deal which the Padres are on the hook to pay. The Red Sox are paying Hosmer the league minimum.
