WooSox lefty Cam Booser becoming shut down option in bullpen
If you take a look at the season stats of WooSox reliever Cam Booser, it really won’t paint the right picture.
The lefty has a 5.79 ERA and has given up 21 earned runs in 32.2 innings pitched. He posted a 9.58 ERA in April and a 7.88 ERA in May. Nothing seemed to be going well for Booser in the first two months.
The months of June and July have come and Booser’s numbers have been the exact opposite than the start of the year.
Booser has gone 10 straight outings without allowing a run, a stretch that dates back to June 13th. He has only given up three earned runs since May 27th. The best part of the Seattle native’s game has been his strikeout stuff. Even with the early season struggles, he is carrying an 11.3 K/9 on the season.
This recent success has been rewarded, as Booser found himself pitching in the ninth inning for the WooSox in his last outing.
With rain and lightning forcing a delay with one out in the 9th inning, Worcester needed someone to turn to once the delay would soon be over. Booser was able to record the last two outs of the game and record his first career Triple-A save.
The complete turn-around we have seen from Booser this season has been impressive. With only three lefties left in the WooSox bullpen after a few promotions, the 31-year-old is separating himself from others as a potential option up at the MLB level. The ability to hit 100 MPH will never hurt his chances either.
