NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama has been drawing attention all over the world since he was drafted first overall in the NBA Draft.
That attention and hype just saw his debut jersey he wore during the second-hall against the Mavericks sell for an astounding $762,000 during Sotheby’s inaugural auction with the NBA.
The jersey exceeded pre-auction estimates that were between $80,000 to $120,000 dollars. The auction saw 176 bidders across 14 countries with an average of 24 bids per lot, per Sotheby’s. It was one of the "highest levels of participation for a sports memorabilia auction at Sotheby's."
“This jersey is a generational opportunity to own an iconic piece of the 'Wemby' story,” the item description reads.
The Spurs were defeated in the game 126-119, but despite the loss, Wembanyama made an impact in the game, particularly in the fourth quarter. He would finish the game with 15 points, five rebounds and was 6-of-9 shooting.
Through 14 games this season, Wembanyama is averaging 18.6 points per game, 9.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 blocks, while playing in every Spurs game this season.
