Trevor Story began rehab stint with WooSox, batted second and the DH vs. Toledo Mud Huns
Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story played his first game since dislocating his left shoulder back in April.
Story began a rehab assignment with the WooSox on Sunday, where he was the designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a double at Polar Park.
The veteran’s first hit came in the third inning when he singled into right field. He doubled to left field in the seventh inning.
“It was great. I didn’t think this was a possibility when we first got the news with the injury,” Story told reporters after the game. “Playing games is pretty special to me and my family... Today was a big step, and I was trying to have fun with it.”
Story said his shoulder felt good during the game and that he was comfortable at the plate.
The WooSox plan to pencil Story in at shortstop on Monday and again on Wednesday on the road against the Rochester RedWings.
“I felt good,” Story said. “Felt comfy in there. Swung and missed, (got) jammed. Kind of did everything today. Found a barrel. Felt really good being back in game action again.”
Story will continue his rehab with the WooSox with the hope of helping the Red Sox before the season wraps up in a few weeks.
“It’s been fun to watch,” Story said. “We’ve been a fun team to tune in on. I think it’s been different than in the past. A lot of versatility. A lot of speed. Different ways to win. That’s the sign of a good team.”
