Three more candidates emerge in Patriots OC search
The New England Patriots have reportedly interviewed three more candidates as they continue their offensive coordinator search. Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury, and Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy have all met with head coach Jerod Mayo.
Engstrand, 41, has worked with the Detroit Lions offense since 2020. This season, Detroit is in the NFC championship game with multiple offensive weapons including rookie sensation tight end Sam LaPorta and wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Engstrand has been the passing game coordinator the last two season while St. Brown has had 100 plus catches and over 1000 yards in both.
Fleury and Getsy both have ties to the Shanahan offense that was started by long time coach Mike Shanahan. Fleury works for the 49ers who is of course coached by Kyle Shanahan. Getsy has coached under Matt LeFleur, who previously coached under Mike.
The Patriots seem to have a clear direction of with where they want to take the offense which is someone with ties the Shanahan offense or a spin-off of that. The Mike Shanahan coaching tree has been very successful as it has been grown through Kyle, Sean McVay, and LeFleur.
Each of those three have had assistants go on become NFL head coaches in Mike McDaniel, Zac Taylor, and Nathaniel Hackett.
