Stephen Scott continues hot streak with career night for WooSox
With the first preseason game of the NFL season happening on Thursday, the WooSox were in the mood to celebrate.
After setting a season high with number of home runs in a game, the WooSox hung up 17 runs on the Syracuse Mets. In the process of putting up the 17 runs, Worcester hit 7 balls over the fence. The offensive breakout night was led by WooSox catcher, Stephen Scott. The catcher led the night with two sperate three-run bombs and ultimately ended up 3-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.
It might be about time we start talking about Scott.
The sample size has gotten larger, and the numbers are still through the roof. Scott has now played in 29 games in Triple-A and is slashing an outstanding .308/.404/.648. He now has eight home runs and 32 RBIs in that span. What is most impressive about the crazy numbers is he is doing it in the bottom half of the Worcester lineup. On most nights, he is slotted in in the bottom third due to how stacked the Worcester lineup is with offensive firepower. No matter where you are batting in the lineup, 32 runs driven in in 29 games is an impressive stat.
While the WooSox have three catchers on the roster at the moment, it remains to be seen just how many times Scott makes his way in the lineup behind the plate. Ronaldo Hernández and Caleb Hamilton are both free agents after the season is over, so could we be seeing a shift in time with Scott being the primary catcher? If the bat stays hot for the next two months, a conversation will be had about possibly seeing a backup catching role on the MLB side to start next season. Worst case scenario, Scott is your everyday starting catcher in Worcester in 2024.
