Week Record: 2-1
Overall Record: 50-44
Current spot in standings: 4th place in AL East
This was a short week due to the All-Star Break, but the Red Sox made the most of it, by taking 2/3 of the weekend series against the Chicago Cubs to start the second half.
Bello went on Friday and continued his hot stretch, going six innings and allowing three runs, while picking up the win in an 8-3 game.
Rafael Devers was the star of the show however as he had two home runs on the night and Tristan Casas added one of his own.
The second game of the series was much uglier as James Paxton simply did not have it in this one. A six-run third inning did him in, headlined by a Cody Bellinger grandslam.
Despite Casas hitting another homer, the Sox fell in this one, 10-4.
The Sunday series finale decided who would take the series and the Sox did not disappoint, Casas hit a home run for the third consecutive game and Masataka Yoshida hit a grandslam to back up Kutter Crawford six innings of shutout ball.
This offense and stellar pitching led the Sox to an 11-5 victory.
This was big for the team as they were able to keep the momentum from the first half and were finally able to jump the Yankees and get into fourth place in the division, while still only being two games out of the last wild card spot.
Tristan Casas gave us lots of reasons to be excited for his second half of the season as well as Bello continuing his dominance and looking more and more like the ace of this staff.
The team will head to Oakland and begin a three game series tonight against the Oakland Athletics.
