Earlier this week I released my Top 5 prospects with Marcelo Mayer leading the way as the overall number one prospect in the Red Sox organization. To close out the overall Top 10 list, here is my 6-10 prospect list.
Mikey Romero
Mikey Romero was the first player selected in last years MLB Draft for the Red Sox with the clubs 24th overall pick and spent 10 games at the Rookie-level before being promoted to Salem where he appeared in nine games. In his short career he owns a slash line of .304/.368/.506 with just one homer and 17 RBI. It is very likely that Romero will spend the 2023 season with Salem.
Brandon Walter
I really wanted to push Brandon Walter to my Top 5, but the personal bias still would not allow me to do so. So, he comes in at number seven. I fully anticipate the lefty to get the call to the MLB at some point this season. Last season between AA/AAA, Walter went (3-3, 3.59) with 75 strikeouts and just seven walks allowed in 57.2 innings of work. He probably will get the call to the show after the All-Star break depending on where the Red Sox are in the playoff race.
Roman Anthony
The Red Sox selected Roman Anthony with their third pick (supplemental second round) in July. They paid him $2.5 million, the equivalent of late first-round money and their highest bonus in the 2022 Draft. Last season between Rookie and Salem, he slashed .306/.373/.361 with 12 RBI. Anthony, like Romero, will start the 2023 season with Salem.
Eddinson Paulino
Eddinson Paulino spent last season in Salem where he impressed with his bat and speed. Talked to a scout last year and he said this of Paulino at that time. “Raw talent. Has the bat speed to make a big league roster. Has come around with some power as well.” Paulino on the year hit .266/.359/.469 with 13 homers and 66 RBI. Paulino will start 2023 with Greenville along with the 10th ranked prospect, Blaze Jordan.
Blaze Jordan
Blaze Jordan made the jump to High-A ball with Greenville after putting up stellar numbers with Salem. In his time with both clubs, Jordan slashed .289/.363/.445 with 12 homers and 68 RBI. The possibility of seeing him promoted to Double-A really is not out of the question, but it will depend on how he starts and who gets moved in front of him.
One thing for sure though is this; the Red Sox farm system is loaded with top-tier talent and the BoSox faithful should be excited for the future.
