SoxSpects Portal: Jay Groome has impressive outing
Jay Groome has done it again with a strong outing
Jay Groome yet again had an impressive night in Double-A for the Portland Sea Dogs. The six-foot-six lefty worked six and two thirds allowing two runs, two hits, a walk and struck out seven.
Portland did however get tagged with the 3-2 loss against Hartford.
The only run support the Sea Dogs had on Thursday night was Pedro Castellanos who hit a two-run home run, his second home run of the year and now has 17 RBI on the year.
On April 24, the Sea Dogs hit five home runs to lead them to victory. Castellanos hit his first home run of the year that game and Groome worked four innings allowing four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out five. It was his first win of the season.
Beyond the Monster highlighted Groome in the minor-league pitching depth story a couple days ago.
Groome likely will finish out this season in Portland, but don’t be surprised if he is to be promoted to Triple-A Worcester as he’s now worked 25.1 innings striking out 28, walking 10, allowing 20 hits over five games started. He holds a 1-1 record with a 4.26 ERA. Not eye-popping numbers to say the least, but he’s showing progress with every outing.
