The Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon gave fans in attendance an early look at the future home run derby.
Portland hit four of their fiver homers in the first inning as Pedro Castellanos got it going with a grand slam that gave the Sea Dogs a 4-2 lead. It was his first homer of the season.
Castellanos home run was followed by Kole Cottam as he hit his first jack of the season. It was a solo shot that extended the lead to 5-2.
Hudson Potts would then join the show as he blasted his third homer of the season. It was a two-run shot that moved the lead to 7-2.
Finishing off the home run derby in the first inning was Christian Koss, his second of the year on a solo shot extending the lead to 8-2 at the end of the first inning.
Portland would tack on more runs throughout the game, but in the bottom of the seventh inning Will Dalton would hit his second homer of the season.
Portland won the game 13-5 and collected 15 hits along the way.
As a team, Portland’s pitching staff struck out seven, allowing five runs on seven hits while walking six.
The standout on the mound for the Sea Dogs was relief pitcher Jay Groome who worked four innings allowing four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out five. He earned the win. His first of the year.
With the win the Sea Dogs improve to 9-6 on the year.
