Roman Anthony hits his first Double-A homer
Recently promoted outfield prospect Roman Anthony showed off his power on Friday night, connecting for his homer as a member of the Portland Sea Dogs.
The Red Sox No. 2 prospect in the system according to MLB Pipeline, homered in his second at-bat against the Reading Fightin Phils.
Anthony has been a fast riser through the Red Sox system since being drafted during the 2022 MLB draft. Prior to landing with the Sea Dogs, the 19-year-old had an outstanding run with the Greenville Drive, slashing .294/.412/.569 with 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 38 RBIs to go along with 40 walks.
The outfield prospect started his Sea Dogs career going 1-for-7 over the first two games.
After his promotion to the Drive earlier this season, Baseball America referred to Anthony as a breakout prospect.
“One of the top breakout prospects in Low-A this season, Anthony has taken flight since seeing a promotion to High-A Greenville,” Baseball America wrote. “His excellent bat-to-ball skills and discerning eye pair nicely with his developing plus power. Anthony has the ability to develop into a well-rounded offensive player who can handle center field defensively.”
Anthony’s power is impressive, he will continue to show it off until the end of the Sea Dogs season.
“While Anthony shows plus to double-plus raw power and can clear fences with ease, he controls at-bats in impressive fashion, particularly for a player with his stout frame. While his raw power is obvious, there's less consensus around Anthony's pure hitting ability,” wrote Baseball America.
