Report: Red Sox preparing a multi-year offer for right-hander Nathan Eovaldi
The Red Sox are reportedly preparing a multi-year offer for right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, per Marino Pepen and @BostonStrong_34. WEEI’s Rob Bradford also confirmed the report on Sunday.
Boston extended a one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offer to Eovaldi on Thursday prior to the 5 p.m. deadline.
Reports have been surfacing that the Red Sox offered Eovaldi the $19.65 million qualifying offer with the hopes he would accept it, while working on a multi-year deal.

If Eovaldi rejects the qualifying offer and signs elsewhere, the Red Sox would receive a compensatory selection between the fourth and fifth rounds of the 2023 MLB Draft.
The 32-year-old made 20 starts for the Red Sox in 2022, Eovaldi went 6-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 109 1/3 innings. It should be noticed that the right-handed hurler missed roughly a dozen starts with two separate injured list stints. One was due to tightness in his lower back and the other for neck/trapezius soreness.

Bringing back Eovaldi provides Boston with a familiar face for the rotation in 2023. As of now, the Red Sox have Chris Sale, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, James Paxton and Garrett Whitlock as some of the options for the rotation.
Boston still needs an ace for the staff but adding Eovaldi back in the mix provides additional depth to the rotation.
