Red Sox trade outfielder Greg Allen to the Yankees
The Red Sox made a minor trade on Friday night sending WooSox outfielder Greg Allen to the Yankees for 18-year-old right-handed pitcher Diego Hernández.
Allen had an upward mobility clause in his contract which means he’s likely going to be added to the Yankees roster.
The speedy outfielder is no stranger to playing in the Bronx. He was a Yankee during the 2021 season where he played in 15 games, hitting .270 with and .849 OPS.
While with the WooSox, Allen was second on the team and in the International League with 23 stolen bases. He was a perfect 23-for-23 while hitting .250 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 37 games.
Boston replaced Allen by signing free agent outfielder Bradley Zimmer who was recently released by the Dodgers. He was assigned to Triple-A Worcester and will provide the organization center field depth.
Hernández is a native of Mexico that went 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 12 outings (five starts) in the Dominican Summer League last season. He struck out 48 and walked 14 in 34 ⅓ innings. Opponents batted .188 against him.
