Red Sox sign veteran outfielder, assign to Triple-A Worcester
Boston adds outfielder Bradley Zimmer
The Boston Red Sox signed OF Bradley Zimmer to a minor league deal, per Chris Henrique.
Zimmer was just released by the Dodgers after struggling in AAA for the Oklahoma City Dodgers. The 30-year-old only hit .219 but and had an OPS of .669 but he does have a strong centerfield glove.
The California native was once a top prospect for the then Cleveland Indians.
In 2017, the year he made his MLB debut he was considered a top 20 prospect all of baseball. He was selected by them back in 2014 with their first round pick. Unfortunately multiple shoulder injuries derailed his career, including surgery on a torn labrum back in 2018. Since then the most games he has played in during a season was 2021 with 99 games.
Zimmer will now join his fourth team in his career as he had stops with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies.
The depth would have to take a big hit for Zimmer to appear for Boston any time soon, but as this 2023 team has already seen they continue to get contributions from unlikely places.
Credit goes out to Chaim for making small moves to patch this team together as they battle through injuries. Who knows if Zimmer will ever be seen, but no one would have expected the Red Sox to get any real value from Brennan Bernadino and Pablo Reyes either.
