Red Sox top prospects invited to 2024 All-Star Futures Game
The Red Sox will be well represented in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game that will take place on Saturday, July 13th, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Top prospects Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel were selected to participate, with Roman Anthony added as an inactive selection.
Anthony will also participate in the first-ever Future Skills Showcase, featuring three rounds of challenges, during which players can accumulate points by executing various hitting skills.
Mayer, the No. 2 prospect in the system, according to SoxProspects, was selected for his second Futures Game after participating in the one in Seattle last season. He is the first Portland Sea Dogs player in history to earn the honor of attending the Futures Game twice.
The 21-year-old is having a tremendous offensive season, leading the Eastern League in average (.307), doubles (25), extra-base hits (32) and runs (54). Mayer also ranks second in hits (82), third in total bases (128), fifth in slugging percentage (.479), and sixth in OPS (.850).
Teel, the No. 3 ranked prospect, according to SoxProspects, is hitting .302 for the Sea Dogs with 14 doubles, eight home runs, and a team-leading 48 RBI. He also owns a .390 OBP. He ranks second in the Eastern League in runs (51), third in average, fourth in RBI and OBP, fifth in OPS (.854) and seventh in hits (71).
Anthony is ranked the No. 1 prospect in the system, according to SoxProspects, and currently ranks sixth in the Eastern League in walks (36) and extra-base hits (25). This year, he is hitting .245 with 15 doubles and eight home runs through 60 games for Portland.
The Big Three right now remain in Portland but are heading rapidly towards a promotion to Triple-A Worcester. It’s not known if the Red Sox will promote all three together or individually, though Red Sox director of player development Brian Abraham recently told The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier that “the conversations are happening constantly.”
Nick Sogard & Nick Yorke swung hot bats for the WooSox in June
June was one of the best months in quite some time for Nick Yorke. After a promotion to Triple-A Worcester to begin the month, Yorke’s bat exceeded all expectations. After carrying an OPS of .691 to start the 2024 season in Portland, Yorke put up a .929 OPS over 20 games for the Worcester Red Sox.
