Red Sox sign Michael Fulmer to minor league deal
Fulmer is expected to miss the entire 2024 season
Veteran right-hander Michael Fulmer and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a two-year minor league deal.
The contract includes a $1.5 million major-league salary for both years, with a chance to earn an additional $2 million based on playing time.
Fulmer isn’t expected to pitch in 2024 after undergoing UCL revision surgery on his pitching elbow this winter. He ended the 2023 season with a 3-5 record and a 4.42 ERA throughout 57 innings.
Fulmer’s career has been riddled with injuries. He missed the 2019 season due to Tommy John surgery and returned in 2020 to post a dismal 8.78 ERA. After that, Fulmer switched to a relief role the following season.
Fulmer last played with the Chicago Cubs in 2023, where current Sox CBO Craig Breslow led the pitching department.
Fulmer has a career 3.94 ERA over 262 appearances and a 37-50 record. He has made over 50 appearances in each of the last three seasons.
