Red Sox sign Matt Dermody to a minors deal
The Red Sox remained busy on Tuesday night agreeing to terms with left-handed reliever Matt Dermody with an invite to big league camp, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
The deal was officially announced on Jan. 31st, 2023.
The 32-year-old has pitched in parts of four Major League seasons, his last appearance was last season with the Cubs. Dermody pitched in just one game with Chicago surrendering two hits, giving up two earned runs posting an 18.00 ERA.
Over the course of his career, the southpaw has pitched for the Blue Jays in addition to the Cubs. Dermody is 2-0 in 27 1/3 innings, surrendering 31 hits, 19 runs, 17 earned with 22 strikeouts while posting a 5.60 ERA.
The addition of Dermody gives the Red Sox additional left-handed depth alongside Ryan Sherriff who was signed to a minors pact earlier in the week. Boston is looking for additional left-handed bullpen options after trading Josh Taylor to the Royals for Adalberto Mondesi on Tuesday.
