Red Sox and Ryan Sheriff agree to a minors deal
The Red Sox and left-hander Ryan Sherriff agreed to a minor-league deal, per his own announcement on Twitter. This is the second player to announce his own minors deal with the Red Sox this offseason. Raimel Tapia announced his agreement with the club on Instagram last week.
The southpaw has pitched parts of four Major League season. His last season in the bigs was with the Rays in 2021. That season, Sherriff pitched in 16 games posting a 5.52 ERA in 14 2/3 innings of work. He was later designated for assignment that season and was claimed by the Phillies.
The Red Sox haven’t formally announced the minor league deal for Sherriff. The addition of Sherriff gives the club another lefty option for the bullpen this season. Sherriff provides a low-risk depth option who also has major league experience.
Sherriff has 44 career major league appearances, all out of the bullpen. The 32-year-old owns a career record of 3-2 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He spent 2017 and 2018 with Cardinals and 2020 and 2021 with the Rays.
