Red Sox sign Alex Rodriguez’s nephew, assigns him to the WooSox
The Red Sox have signed Alex Rodriguez’s nephew Joe Dunand to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Worcester, per the MiLB transactions log.
Dunand made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2022, going 3-for-10 (.300) with a homer, double and an RBI in three games. While with the Marlins, he saw time at second base and third base. He was designated for assignment after making his debut and was claimed by the Braves.
The 28-year-old was outrighted off the Braves’ 40-man roster and spent all of last season with their Triple-A Gwinnett affiliate.
Dunand slashed .268/.362/.481 with 19 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 52 RBIs, 49 runs scored, three stolen bases, 45 walks, and 107 strikeouts in 95 games. He was granted free agency this past November
While playing at the Triple-A level, Dunand is a lifetime .238 hitter with 97 doubles, 51 homers, 224 RBI, 13 stolen bags, 178 walks, and 541 strikeouts in 519 career minor-league games.
Dunand will be assigned to Triple-A Worcester and is projected to play first base, according to SoxProspects.com. He will also provide WooSox skipper. Chad Tracy versatility in the infield and outfield, potentially filling the role left behind by Ryan Fitzgerald.
The right-handed hitter has two minor-league options remaining.
