Roman Anthony talks about playing with Kyle Teel this past season: ‘I think he makes a lot of people better'
The Red Sox have many young and exciting prospects in their system. Outfielder Roman Anthony and catcher Kyle Teel are two top prospects that fans are exited about and hope to see at Fenway Park in the near future.
This past season, Anthony and Teel had the opportunity to play together with the Portland Sea Dogs. The 19-year-old prospect talked about what it was like to play alongside Teel this summer while on the To the Show We Go Podcast.
“Yeah, he's awesome. He's the man, he's actually down here (Fort Myers) as well,” said Anthony. “He was just over not too long ago. He's, he's, he's a great dude. He I've learned a lot from him. Just in the short time being with him. You know, the minute he got to Greenville he was like a spark plug. He's a high energy guy. You know, college guy so he knows a lot it's got a lot of knowledge but he's just can flat out play baseball. He's just a very good baseball player.
“He's a baseball rat you know, he's a very good athlete for catcher runs well, can steal bases more than people probably think. He can really hit for average, he's just a pure hitter to all fields and you know the catching is ridiculous… the arms ridiculous.
“It's off the field is what sticks out more than on the field. He's just a great he's a great roommate. I was roomed with him and double A when we were on the road and you know, just a great person. So the Red Sox definitely did a good job with that guy. He's high energy in the dugout, everyone loves being around him. I think he makes makes a lot of people better. So you know, the Red Sox got a good one there. He's a great guy.”
Teel had a strong first few weeks in the Red Sox system after being drafted in the first round in the 2023 MLB Draft. Anthony was just as impressive, rising through the system hitting .272 with 14 homers, 64 RBIs, 16 stolen bases and posting an .869 OPS.
After his promotion to the Greenville Drive earlier this season, Baseball America referred to Anthony as a breakout prospect.
“One of the top breakout prospects in Low-A this season, Anthony has taken flight since seeing a promotion to High-A Greenville,” Baseball America wrote. “His excellent bat-to-ball skills and discerning eye pair nicely with his developing plus power. Anthony has the ability to develop into a well-rounded offensive player who can handle center field defensively.”
