Red Sox prospect Brooks Brannon adds to his trophy case
Over the last week, Red Sox prospects have been adding to their trophy cases. On Monday, David Sandlin was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. He was not the only one who made headlines, as Greenville catcher Brooks Brannon was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week. For Brannon, it came as no surprise as he has been a hits machine.
Last week, the talented catcher posted a .524 batting average in 21 at-bats for the Greenville Drive. He added three doubles, two triples, and one home run to his resume. As Brannon showed off his power, he also displayed great discipline, only striking out three times.
Following his outburst at the plate, Brannon owns a .272 batting average this season. He has already driven in 25 runs, which matches his total from last year. With the regular season far from over, the former ninth-round pick is on pace to set new career highs in every offensive category.Â
Brannon is not ranked as one of the organization's top prospects, but that could change if he can build on his success. During his time in the minors, he has always been a solid bat, but the 21-year-old has been better offensively during the 2025 campaign. He is showing more power and has cut down on strikeouts in his first stint in High-A.Â
In a farm system that isn't full of elite catching prospects, Brannon's play has been an encouraging sign. The only Red Sox catching prospect in the organization's top 30 is Johanfran Garcia, who is still just 20 years old. His MLB debut is not projected to come until 2028.Â
As the 2025 campaign continues, Brannon will be a prospect to watch. If he can continue to make a difference at the plate, a promotion could be on the horizon.Â
