In the Red Sox farm system, there is talent at every level. While a lot of attention has been placed on Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, other prospects are making a name for themselves. That includes third baseman Andy Lugo, who is standing out due to his bat.
Through eight games this season, Lugo has posted a .321 batting average and driven in one run. He has been an on-base machine with four multi-efforts. That includes an impressive performance at the plate on Monday night against Winston-Salem, where both of his hits were doubles.Â
After ending last season in high-A, the 21-year-old has looked a lot better to start his second stint in Greenville. In 21 games last year for the Drive, Lugo hit .225 and struck out 20 times. Although the 2025 campaign is only a few weeks old, Lugo has done a much better job of making contact. He has also shown some power with five extra-base hits.
While Lugo is not ranked as one of the organization's top prospects, he has made the most of his opportunities at each level. In 172 minor league games, the Dominican native has posted a .285 batting average and stolen 49 bases. Due to his speed, Lugo has the ability to make an impact in various ways.Â
If Lugo can continue to build on his success, his time in High-A could soon come to an end. He has been hard to get out since the season started and has at least one hit in five of the eight games he has appeared in. That has helped give the Greenville Drive lineup a boost. After hitting 30 doubles last year, he is on pace to match that total.
As the season continues, the talented infielder will be a player to watch. His skills may not jump off the page, but Lugo’s statistics at the end of the day show that he is a very solid player with more room to grow.
