Red Sox promote prospect Jeter Downs
Downs is batting .178 this season for the WooSox with 11 homers
Three years after the Mookie Betts trade, the Red Sox have officially added all three players from the deal to the Major League Roster.
On Monday, the Red Sox promoted infielder Jeter Downs from Triple-A Worcester. The move comes on the heels of MLB teams being limited to only 13 pitchers on their active roster.

According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, Downs is only expected to be on the roster for a few games.
With Kiké Hernández and Christian Arroyo on the injured list, Boston will utilize Downs as a depth infielder off the bench.
In order to add Downs, the Red Sox designated James Norwood for assignment. The recently acquired right-handed hurler was the roster casualty to facilitate Downs’ promotion.
This season for the WooSox, Downs is only batting .178 with 11 homers, five doubles, one triple and a .298 on-base percentage in 52 games. Downs will be placed on a big league roster for the very first time in his careers.
“It all depends now obviously with Christian’s situation and Kiké,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “We’re very right-handed in a sense. But we’re versatile, which is important. We’ll see where they are at first and then we’ll make decisions accordingly. With Christian, I think he was still feeling not great but better. The values are not there yet. If he misses a few more days, then he’ll probably have to go and have a few at-bats to get his legs under him. But that’s something we’ve been talking about for a few days.”
