Norwood has struggled this season with the Phillies. In 20 appearances, he has pitched to a 8.31 ERA with 22 strikeouts and nine walks.
Over the course of his big league career, Norwood has spent time with the Cubs and the Padres. He owns a career 5.48 ERA in 48 appearances over five seasons.
While Red Sox fans might scoff at his high ERA, the club will look to try and fix what has ailed him this season. The 28-year-old has averaged a 96.6 mph fastball, however his opponents have tattooed his top pitch. Opponents are hitting .375 (12-for-32) against his fastball.
Norwood also offered a splitter and a slider which pitching coach Dave Bush will look to try and elevate. Despite his rough looking ERA, he owns a 3.65 FIP and a 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
Red Sox fans will hope Chaim Bloom has found another hidden gem within the Phillies organization. Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold were acquired during the 2020 season. Pivetta has been an important piece in the rotation and Seabold is inching closer to the bigs.
