Red Sox promote new assistant general manager for Craig Breslow
New chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has made his first significant move within his front office on Tuesday night.
Boston will promote Paul Toboni, who most recently was the Red Sox vice president of amateur scouting and player development. His new role will be senior vice president/assistant general manager, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Toboni now joins assistant general managers Eddie Romero, Raquel Ferreira and Michael Groopman now working under Breslow. Former Red Sox general manager Brian O’Halloran was promoted to executive vice president of baseball operations.
The Red Sox are not expected to make any other levels to their senior leadership, per Cotillo.
Toboni was internal candidate for the chief baseball officer position after Chaim Bloom was fired. The tenured Red Sox executive oversaw the drafts from 2020-2022 that brought in Marcelo Mayer, Mikey Romero, Roman Anthony, Nick Yorke and Blaze Jordan to the organization.
Toboni joined the Red Sox organization in 2015 as an intern, working his way up through the front office.
Since Breslow has been hired by the Red Sox, he has brought in Andrew Bailey to as the new pitching coach, Justin Willard as the new director of pitching, Noah Junis as the WooSox new bullpen coach and Dillion Lawson as the organization’s new hitting coordinator.
